Ever since I was a girl, I always liked to spin and twirl

My first dance experience.

I was young its true but even then I knew

The only thing I wanted to do was….

 

Fun, hip, jazzy dance class

Taught me all about dynamics.

It was in high school

And I was sixteen trying to be cool.

We spent hours practicing steps

Striking a pose and learning to flex.

I learned to count in beats of eight.

And new dance routines, we had to create.

Then there was my ballet class.

French, classic ballet.

Serious, graceful and slow

We plied at the barre nice and low.

Passion in all that we practiced.

We looked sexy when we pirouetted and arabesqued

When the piano played, we were like moving art.

I bought the shoes and learned to dance on pointe.

We donned tight leotards; I even wore a tutu.

I danced with a hot guy in a pas de deux

Yeah so after that,

I decided to take a break from ballet

And you’ll never guess what was next!

Exotic, revealing belly dancing

An art form some conservative penchants like to shun.

But sexy and fun.

Although you wouldn’t know it,

It’s harder than you think.

I swayed to the music.

Sequins covered my private regions.

I shook my stuff to the beat and I’m sure it’s true

My core muscles looked good when I was through.

So, I stopped classes and went out clubbing.

I’d stay up jiving all night

Bounce in the flashing strobe light.

Country dance halls to do a rad two-step.

In salsa clubs I was adept.

I danced with so many nice men.

I met Country cowboys and Spanish Latins.

So sweet, they made sure I was okay.

Swept me over the floor when it was time to play.
