Whenever I meet people, who’ve been taught to have closed minds,

Let’s be honest, many people are blind, you will find.

Well, my mental wheels begin to turn.

When people are open to guidance, I suggest a new alliance.

I help, I teach them best how to discern.

 

And you have much to learn.

Though I be stern, there is knowledge you can earn.

Rest assured, with practice, you’ll feel freed, now take my lead.

I’m sure, truly, you can be…

 

Enlightened, you’ll soon feel enlightened.

We’ll practice an open mind, see the other side.

You’ll gain more skills each new day.

We’ll learn to think critically, work judiciously.

Enlightened, I’ll help you be enlightened.

We will write, think and create, you’ll learn to debate.

Learn the skills you’ve got to learn.

Now step on the path of knowledge, for it’s your turn.

 

Do not be discouraged by my fair and deep critique.

I will guide you in a multitude of thoughtful ways to speak.

Now that we are helpful and deeply loyal friends,

A leader and teacher, you’ll be glad that I’m here

And with good guidance from me to change who you’ll be.

I assure you that your world-view will brighten

With effort and strength of heart you will be enlightened.

There is hope on the horizon.

 

When I meet struggling people

Whose knowledge is brief and feeble,

I remind them on their own behalf

to think of great revolutionaries

or those who made our world more equal.

Where they lazy and careless?

Don’t make me laugh!

True, it’s best to be enlightened.

It’s not affluence, it’s about good sense.

So it’s very smart to be

Very, very enlightened, you see.

 

And though you object to work onerous,

I know with adamance

You’re gonna celebrate it, your new well-earned enlightenment.
